People On The Internet Are Wondering Why Cats Actually Enjoy Sitting Like A Loaf Of Bread

We know you think your cat looks absolutely adorable when it is sitting like a loaf of bread. We think the same thing as well! If you don’t know what we mean, well, “loafing” occurs when a cat sits with all its limbs tucked underneath its body. And that is absolutely a sight to see!

It’s for certain that some cat behaviors are just plainly bizarre, and we have yet to explain the reasons behind some of these behaviors. Besides, cats can be kind of unpredictable from time to time as well. But unlike some of their other weird behaviors, this “loafing” situation actually has a scientific explanation. Mikel Delgado, a cat researcher at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, states that cats who sit in a bread loaf position are relaxed and they are not preparing to run away or defend themselves.

So, they tend to sit like that in comfortable locations, such as on a bed or chair. It shows that they are happy, calm and they are feeling safe in their environment. This sitting position may also help them preserve heat. Just like us, cats also tuck their limbs under their body to keep themselves nice and warm!

You should still be careful about your cat’s overall behavior though since they can also sit in this position when they are in pain as well. You should check out their feet to see if they are okay.
